Working at SD 83

The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District is a widely dispersed district which includes the five major communities of Salmon Arm, Sicamous, Sorrento, Enderby, and Armstrong.

The school district provides educational support for 6,200 K-12 students in twenty-two schools with a professional and support staff of more than 800 employees.

The school district is known for its strong academic achievement, thriving trades and careers program, French Immersion, and a rich cultures of school athletics.  The school district also enjoys comprehensive Local Education Agreements with four First Nations Bands.

The district offers a variety of grade configurations in its fifteen elementary, three middle, and five secondary schools.  The Board of Education recently approved an Outdoor Learning School which opened in September 2018.

School District 83 has a comprehensive career exploration and preparation program along with a strong apprenticeship program, Education Outreach and Distance Learning.

The district recently completed work on its new strategic plan which identified the district’s key goals, projected outcomes and strategies for the next five years.  Three goals identified as priorities include:

  • Organizational Efficiency – decisions and actions are clear, purposeful and respectful.
  • Culture of Health and Wellness – students and staff are healthy and connected to the learning community.
